Consumer Alert

from
West Carolina Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc.
As a service to our customers, we want to provide you with helpful information to keep you and your family safe during any season of the year. Just as we have always stressed the importance of protecting your information on the internet, it is equally important to do so over the phone. As part of this consumer alert notification, we want to give you helpful tips and tools to use if someone suspicious should ever call your home pretending to be from West Carolina.
1.      In most cases, West Carolina will not call your home after normal business hours. However, if you have reported a service outage a technician may call your home after hours.
2.      If a call comes from our business office, the 864-446-2111 number will always display on your caller ID.
3.      A West Carolina representative will always state their name when calling your home.
4.      If West Carolina initiates a call to your home, our representative will not ask you for account information such as your home address, social security number, services you subscribe to, or any other account information.
5.      If you suspect the caller is not from West Carolina, ask the caller for a name and a callback number. Then, hang up and dial the number. In most cases, a fraudulent caller will not want to provide you with a contact name and number.
6.      Lastly, if you suspect the caller is not a West Carolina representative, hang up and call our business office during normal business hours.
We hope you have found this information to be helpful. West Carolina will always strive to provide an environment that is best for our customers and employees.
