Did you know? Nearly one year ago, the City formally launched its Downtown Revitalization Plan! This plan creates a framework to revitalize this portion of the City through economic development, events, tourism, and the creative reuse of buildings and properties! So far, in spite of COVID-19, a good deal of progress has been made though much remains to be done!

1) Downtown Occupancy. The Downtown Occupancy rate is right at 75% with at least 3 new businesses set to open in the coming weeks and months. (The occupancy rate has been closer to 60-65% over the past decade)

2) Downtown Investment. The City has secured over $700,000 in grants to go towards streetscaping projects and the Opera House Renovation.

3) Event Growth. The Hogs and Hens and Opera House in particular have seen a good deal of growth over the past 2 years, COVID-19 notwithstanding. As these event series grow, so to does the Economic Impact on local businesses.

4) Business Incubation. The City’s First Business Incubator launched in January of 2020. Located above the Chamber of Commerce, the incubator is home to Red Gate Realty. The Incubator Program also has the potential to grow in the coming years.

5) Business Retention Program. A business retention program has been established which is centered around entrepreneurial resources.

6) Smaller Projects. Smaller projects such as new signage and signage restoration are also being worked on.
